God’s call to Mexico

When I left for Mexico the first time in April of 2022 I truly didn’t think I would be moving there a year later but here we are! Very shortly after I arrived to the YWAM Mazatlán base in Sinaloa, Mexico I felt the Lord asking me to consider a life of full time missions.

I tried to argue with God and told him that I would only say yes if He showed me a space only I could fill with my passions and gifts. God definitely delivered, every Thursday morning the base has a dedicated time of intercession with different focuses and the last week of April the focus was on families. We split off into different groups and I felt called to pray for the school that is run for the missionary kids. One of the prayer requests from the staff member who organizes it was that they needed more teachers. I thought nothing of it and we all started praying, once I started asking God to provide teachers for these kids I heard God clearly say that I was supposed to be that teacher. To say I was doubtful is an understatement, I tried to convince myself that I heard Him wrong and continued praying, but that nagging feeling wouldn’t leave. Shortly after, the group was sharing what they heard while praying and someone said she believed teachers were being called to the school in that moment. I still wasn’t fully convinced, but I wanted to be obedient so I decided to ask my friend what she thought about me staffing and teaching in the school. Unsurprisingly, she told me when she was praying for more teachers for the school she couldn’t get my name out of her head. So God not only told me of the space He prepared, but then told two other people to share it with me as well.

At this point there was no denying what God was clearly asking me to say yes to: teach kids in Mazatlán and show them the love of Jesus. Over the next 6 months God only made His plans and timing clearer. The three teachers that had been serving in the school are all stepping down by the end of the 2023 school year and base leadership had already was planning on continuing the school they just needed a teacher with the experience and calling to step in. I feel confident that God has prepared a place for me to serve in Mazatlán, Mexico and that it is all according to His perfect plan and timing!

All the love, Isabella
